Substitution & alternative search
The focus of my work is the substitution of problematic substances and the search for suitable alternatives. This involves examining whether a substance, product or process can be avoided or replaced without impairing the required function or effectiveness. The aim is to minimize the impact on people and the environment while maintaining the same benefits.
Data collection
With REACH, CLP and the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), the European Union has taken on a pioneering role in dealing with hazardous substances. The data generated is available on the website of the European Chemicals Agency ECHA. This data forms the basis and starting point for analyses and comparative assessments. If necessary, we research databases, scientific journals and specialist literature on the Internet.
Valuation and valuation tools
We have developed the WIDES disinfectant database assessment tool for the use of disinfectants in hospitals and care facilities, for example. This database, which is freely accessible on the Internet, facilitates the well-founded selection of safe disinfectants with the help of comparative evaluations. We have also investigated the use of biocidal active substances in the disinfection of evaporative cooling systems, in facade coatings and in rodenticides and have proposed alternatives in studies.
