If inadequately maintained, such systems can promote the proliferation of Legionella and release them into the environment via aerosols.<\/p>\n<p>The study shows a significant need for action: In Austria, information about locations, operating conditions and the use of biocides in these plants is largely missing. The study compares active ingredients and processes, assesses their risks to health and the environment and formulates recommendations for minimizing risks.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to correcting structural defects and professional maintenance, oxidizing processes with as little AOX formation as possible are recommended.
